New Smyrna Beach is one of the most pet-friendly cities in Florida. Take your dog to the park, the beach, or one of the many fine dining establishments that allow furry patrons to grace their premises.
Your dog will dance the day away, or at least hop and skip along the water. Below are the four places you can find some pet-friendly excitement for your dog during this season’s vacation.
New Smyrna Beach Pet-Friendly Beaches, Parks, and Places
Smyrna Dunes Park
Location: 2995 N Peninsula Dr, New Smyrna Beach, FL 32169
You have all the accessibility you could ask for at the Smyrna Dunes Park. This is considered the “main” dog-friendly beach in the city. It gives you everything: clean and spacious bathrooms, grills, showers, easy and wide parking, and quick access to the beach by boardwalk.
Leashes are mandatory. You can walk two miles of boardwalk along the beach and the nature trails. Admission is currently $10 per vehicle.
The New Smyrna Beach Dog Park
Location: 2698-2504 Paige Ave, New Smyrna Beach, FL 32168
The New Smyrna Beach Dog Park is well-titled. It is simple and straightforward. The parking lot begins by a boardwalk point that takes you along and up by the beach and the dunes. Park access is free and leashes are required though loosely followed.
You have park benches to eat lunch and a large grassy field to play and run around in. The park is special for its views of both the stunning Ponce Inlet and the local lighthouse.
Seamore Memorial Dog Park
Location: 5959 Spruce Creek Road, Port Orange, FL 32127
Though the beaches enforce a city-wide leash law, you have a few options for leash-free walking and playing.
The Seamore Memorial Dog Park is located a bit north of New Smyrna Beach and just outside the city. Though there is no beach access point, it is easily one of the biggest dog parks in the area and the go-to place for big dogs that need to run and get their energy out. It has beautiful views and scenic pathways through the woods.
Dining with Your Pet
If you want to take your dog out with you for lunch and dinner, plenty of local restaurants offer great places to hang outside with your pet.
Many restaurants with an outdoor seating area are accommodating for dogs. Some may have restrictions based on size. Always call a restaurant ahead of time to confirm pet-friendly details.
Clancy’s Cantina (301 Flagler Ave, New Smyrna Beach, FL 32169) is likely the most popular option, with its delicious mix of high-quality tacos and burgers.
You also can’t go wrong with the laid-back outdoor ambiance of Café Heavenly (115 Flagler Ave, New Smyrna Beach, FL 32169). You would be hard-pressed to visit and not see a few pups on the patio.
Lastly, you can take a spot at Yellow Dog treats (147 Canal St, New Smyrna Beach, FL 32168). The name is intentional. You can bring your fuzzy dog to the back or front outdoor patio. If you ask, you may even get him or her a special treat.
